Do you have a DHCP server on the network... sometimes I find when an OS
is playing up
to set card to DHCP and reboot... if that get's you an IP that works...
then it is the
manual setting of the devices that is letting you down.

Otherwise ... if you don't have a DHCP server can you send me the output
from the ifconfig?

Hi all. I need help, please. Installed FreeBSD today out of a desire to
learn a new operating system. And I can't get networking, which is a
real problem for a gateway machine. The kernel appears to recognise the
card fine (lists MAC address against type NE2000 and gives name -
RealTek 8029 in /var/log/messages). ifconfig says that ed0 is UP, etc
with inet 10.0.0.1 (correct) and netmask 0xffffff00 and broadcast
10.0.0.255 but I can't ping 10.0.0.x (tried two boxes).

The network card was working fine this morning under Red Hat. At the
moment we are looking at possibly going back to redhat because we need
this box back by the end of the weekend. Can anyone help, please?
