[H-GEN] Maxtor D740X (viper) drives with Linux

I have been told that Linux might have a problem with the newer Maxtor
D740X series (Viper) of hard disks. 

Aparently it has to do with error codes issued by the drive not being
handled correctly by Linux causing instability and lockups.

I am intending to run SUSE 6.3 on this drive. 

Does anyone have any experience with this drive under Linux and if older
releases of Linux have problems, does anyone know of patches/fixes or is a
new version required.
