Give a man a fish and he eats for a day, teach him to fish and he eats
for a lifetime.

Current Status
The development of the project is still in early alpha stage.

The source in CVS is now able to scan (100DPI).
Course calibration is done, and some part of the fine calibration.
The Gain Coefficient Data still needs to be calculated and stored
before any high-quality pictures can be scanned in 48bpp.

Ten seconds more digging resulted in:

http://www.buzzard.org.uk/jonathan/scanners-usb.html

It goes on to detail the level of support for this scanner.

"Either no code is currently available or there is only a stand alone
utility for scanning images. There will be difficulties with getting
it working and issues with the quality of the scanned images."

So, all up that took me about a minute. You may have got your answer
quicker if you had searched yourself.
