I managed to get Linux capturing video from my JVC camera without *too* much
drama using the dvgrab/kino stuff. Only problem was that my computer is not
fast enough to do it without dropping about 10% of the frames.
I've been meaning to have a go with the firewire support for hard drives, a
mate of mine has a portable firewire/USB drive but I've never had the time
to set it up under linux ( I mostly use doze on my desktop) and the twins
tend to chew up any spare time I might have.... oh, the firewire card is a
Pinnacle Studios unit that came boxed with the camera [1] that doze reports
as a TI OHCI compliant device.

Cheers
Michael

[1] Well, it was supposed to and I did eventually get it, but that's another
story.
