I compiled up the v2.4.18 USB support last week, in order to talk to a
Kodak DC280 digital camera (using the dc2xx kernel module which
supports this camera).

It worked fine for 20 mins or so, then the camera stopped responding,
so I went back to using the serial cable.

Did you attend Linux.conf.au this year?   There was a talk on usb at
that conference which demonstrated many different devices.   Perhaps
there's some info in the conference proceedings?
