Thank you Frank I have been watching this thing about editors unfold for
seems like a week - even watched it get quite heated. Yesterday, after
watching my email box fill up yet again, cried "enough" and managed to stop
things for about 5 minutes. The original question was simple but the
answers became complex and heated. In the real world, I use Kedit or Star
Office because they are familiar (GUI) and easy. Kedit we know is part of
the X System and is free and, heavens, Star Office is $10 for a genuine disk
and that has Linux, Windows AND Solaris versions on it. For the average
person - that's the game, set and match.

I use Mandrake at home exclusively for ALL the things I need to do and that
would be the average office situation in most small businesses. Star Office
gives me compatibility with MS Office and therefore the rest of the world.
Use vi, EMACS, joe, pico, ae, nano, ed - no way, I don't have the time to
learn but I MUST be compatible with the rest of the world and so I use the
real world stuff.

This surely is the beauty of Linux/Unix isn't it - we have a very
inexpensive choice - and that is why I champion the product - even for
desktops.

My wife is hopeless when it comes to computers and yet she can sit down in
front of my Linux box at home and her Windows box at work and HARDLY KNOW
THE DIFFERENCE. Who says that Linux has not reached desktop/workstation
status. This IS NOT INTENDED to start another "Simple Editor" argument but
is simply a plea in support of Frank to move on and away from "Simple
Editors".
