It really does provide a good insight into the *nix community doesn't
it.

When I first started using *nix operating systems I was using mainly joe
and pico (pico being the default editor for pine and pine being the
recomended mua on student. joe was mainly because that is what I was
shown by a friend), they are good to get you going but if you are
getting serious about doing this on a machine they are kind of limiting
and you really need to learn vi/vim(/elvis) or one of the other (read
inferior ;> ) editors.
