I would suggest pico if you want simple and widely available
on most platforms (unix that is) and as for copy and paste
just use the highlight and right click to paste in a ssh/telnet
client like putty.  You could use vi but I wouldn't suggest if
you are trying to get away from the memory game.

Also pico is the editor for pine a simple email client.

Is there a simpler command line editor than emacs? I don't use the Linux
box
enough to remember the complex emacs command sequences. The Linux box is
the
central server and just sits there and does its job. I only need to edit
simple scripts. In many cases I am doing the editing from a remote
Windows
machine using telnet. All I need is to be able to cut and paste, insert,
delete, open and save. Surely that is not too difficult. Anyone have any
suggestions? We live in hope.
