i'm running debian ... one network card is an isa ne2000 clone. non plug 
and play. the other is a DecNet somethingorother (it runs the tulip driver)

I know and that's what's bugging me. I had linux on the machine a month ago 
(before i started experimenting with windows) and both the cards ran fine.
