[ Humbug *General* list - semi-serious discussions about Humbug and ]

[ Worthwhile understanding: http://www.humbug.org.au/netiquette.html ]
Hi folks,
I've decided to move my drawn out migration to Linux up a cog or two.
Totally cleaned off my one of my drives and a fresh install awaits. Instead
of a token 1/3 of 20Gig.
Any way my problem is this. A while ago I posted a question regarding
Internet access. Wherby a reply came back to edit /etc/ppp/options. Worked a
treat.
Similar problem has occured even after the prescribed mods to 'options'.
Using redhat dial up config, settings as before. When debuging it gets as
far as loading pppd and hangs.
With changes ppp/options now reads
lock
noauth
defaultroute
usepeerdns
Whats more if I close down dial up config and the attempt to connect using
the dialer... I get a "cannot activate interface" and nothing happens (of
course).
Yet if I then open up dial up config it indicates that I am connected.
Sorry I don't understand.
Any ideas anyone.
