He doesn't happen to run Debian's unstable branch, does he?  If he does,
and if he upgraded PAM recently to 0.72-26, he'll either have to upgrade
to 0.72-27, or downgrade.

It's lucky I'm paranoid about upgrading the login system, or I'd be in
the same boat.
