Add your localhost name to /etc/resolve.conf.
Make sure that your localhost (luggage) is the first on the list,
then your ISP DNS

I have set up a household network being masqueraded onto the internet
through a redhat 6.1 box. The network works fine except that if I try to
access the machines on the local network by hostname then the host will
always query my ISP name server before querying my local hosts file. Thus
causing a delay of 10 to 15 seconds.
from /etc/hosts (192.168.105.128)
127.0.0.1 dorfl.discworld dorfl localhost
192.168.105.38 luggage.discworld luggage
