[H-GEN] Joystick?

Anyone ever got a joystick going under Linux? I am running Debian with kernel 
2.4. It is a 2 axis 4 button joystick, plugged into my motherboard which has 
a C-Media 8738 sound card built in. I am using DevFS. Can anyone give me a 
complete overview of getting it going? Thanks,
