after repeated attempts and a complete reinstall, i have discovered that
redhat 7.0 will not compile a 2.2 kernel. at present i'm successfully
compiling 2.4.0-test8.... and praying that it will boot.

unforunately this is contrary to the information redhat gave out prior to
the release of 7.0 which basically said that it would come with 2.2
support and 2.4 would be added later.

Just thought i'd let everyone konw so that others don't have this
problem.
