    The second AUUG conference discussing the state of the art in Open
    Source systems development, presented primarily by people actively
    engaged in Open Source software development.

    Saturday, 25 November 2000, 8:30 am to 5:30 pm.

    Australia (City West Campus), North Terrace, Adelaide 5000.  A map

    The Australian UNIX User Group (AUUG).

9.15 - 9.45	Open Source, Opening Doors
                	Dan Shearer, Open Source Manager, Tellurian

		Tellurian sells software and software consulting.  Dan
               	will discuss what open source is, how it is relevant
                	to the software industry, and what other sectors of
               	business the concept might upset next.

9.45 - 10.15	Cutting code in Qantas Club lounges--A new development model?
                	Richard Sharpe, consultant

		Richard's job requires frequent travel.  In this talk
		he discusses how to use travel time to develop
		software.

10.15 - 10.45	Revamping the FreeBSD SMP implementation
		Greg Lehey, Linuxcare.

		In the wake of the "Mindcraft Benchmarks", the open
		source community was shocked to find that there were
		some areas where Microsoft could outperform them.
		This paper presents the FreeBSD project's reaction to
		the challenge, with which Greg was intimately
		involved.

10.45 - 11.15	Morning Tea

11.15 - 11.45	Panda
		Michael Still

		Panda is a library for generating PDF (portable
		document format) documents.  It has been released for
		beta test.  Michael, the author, describes the current
		status of the package,

11.45 - 12.45	Implementing Network Device Drivers in the Linux kernel
                	Jay Schulist, TurboLinux

                	This start to finish presentation on the internals of
		Linux network device drivers provides an overview of
		how a network driver fits into the Linux network
		stack, how to include a driver in the default kernel
		configuration and build process and how to develop
		device drivers.

12.45 - 1.30	Lunch

1.30 - 2.00	The Katie revision control system
		Geoffrey D. Bennett, NetCraft Australia

		Katie is an Open Source implementation of ClearCase, a
		file system for revision control.

2.00 - 2.30	Perl 6
                	Kirrily Robert

		Kirrily has been involved in the development of the
		upcoming release 6 of perl.  She discusses the first
		few months of Perl 6 development, including the
		changes to the Perl community and development process,
		the current state of Perl 6's design, and the future
		of the project and of Perl itself.

2.30 - 3.00	Presentations: AUUG, ISOC-AU and SAGE-AU

		A brief overview of the leading open source
		organizations in Australia.

		AUUG is the Australian UNIX and Open Systems User
		Group, and aims to promote knowledge and understanding
		of Open Systems.

		ISOC is the Internet Society.  It aims to assure the
                	open development, evolution and use of the Internet
                	for the benefit of all people throughout the world.

		SAGE is the System Administrator's guild.  It was
		formed to advance the profession of System
		Administration.

3.00 - 3.30	Afternoon Tea

4.00 - 4.30	Sweep
		Conrad Parker, University of New South Wales

		Sweep is a sound editor.  This "work in progress"
		description includes a quick tour of what it can do,
		how to load, view, and edit sounds, an overview of its
		architecture, including the file formats supported and
		the use of plugins, and using LADSPA plugins with
		sweep.

4.30 - 5.00	OSDA
		Andrew van der Stock, President, SAGE-AU.

	 	OSDA is a very new, unannounced product.  Andrew will
		reveal all during this presentation.

5.00 - 5.30	Linux packet filtering
		Michael Neuling, RADLogic

		Michael will talk about how and why the Linux packet
		filtering infrastructure has changed from 2.0 thru to
		2.4.
