Have a look at an IBM/Tivoli product called Sanergy.  And perhaps
Sam QuickFS.  It allows sharing over a SAN and also will get you 
the ability to mount/remount and see the real data while in 
``read-only'' mode.

I'm sure they're aqvailable on linux.  Not sure of the exact 
implementation though.
