[H-GEN] modem/ppp problems

After your emails I actually reinstalled the ppp packages that were on
the corel distro cd, and this seems to have fixed problems #1 and #2.  I
guess this is somewhat retrograde, and maybe I should download the
latest versions from th' net.  I'll have to download the .deb files
using windoze (as that's where I have my only dialup access right now)
and save them into a win partition, then try to dpkg them from there. 
Should work OK.

Still have to puzzle thru this thing with problem #3 - which I guess is
to do with pppd.  I think it might be the way kppp and pppd are talking
to each other, so I might try to download a new version of each before I
do anything else!  Given that that doesn't fix it I'll start in with the
stuff about routing that Joel mentions.

Will let you know how I go.
