Yes. Of course, actually _compiling_ (let alone _making_) a lot of tools or
packages that say they are gnu is often quite a pain in the arse. One thing I've
discovered since I started working with SunOS and Solaris fulltime is that there
are an _awfully_ large number of packages out there which are linux/*bsd centric
such that hacking them to compile let alone run on a different version of unix
is almost not worth the effort. Yes, I know that this reflects my bias, but is
it too much to ask that people who write code separate out the
machine/seriously_os_dependent stuff into their own code space so that people
who want to port can do so relatively easily? </soapbox>
Re Ben's footnote (now text body bit) 1 - in a previous message I was somewhat
dismissive of pretty much every clustering solution I'd seen. Of course, I found
out last week that we've just got a new release of our clustering software,
which is, according to our local specialists, incredibly good. I'll have to see
it to believe it though and might have to wait until I've done the course at our
UK office.... ;) (off to Broomfield, Colorado in June ;> - I love training!)
cheers,
