which model is it? these drives if originally attached via the tertiary ide
interface on a sound card are notorious. In general this drive requires a
'master' to be on the same ide cable as itself for it to work correctly.

have a look at the make and model, then check

/usr/src/linux/Documentation/cdrom/

and see if you need to modrobe one of the special drivers (most probably cdu31a)

this is almost certainly a ram problem. As a celeron it's using the 168pin dim,
swap it's socket or swap it out.

also, remove absolutely everything off that motherboard except the vga card,
but most especially, the ide interface cables. You need to get a stable bios
boot before moving further.
