I have also had some very good success with Informix support. But, I
suppose that the support has to be good, as commercial database systems
are extremely complex beasts. It is fairly easy IMHO to get overwhelmed
with all the documentation that's available, as Informix has a couple of
1k+ page manuals in PDF format, and a few more 100+ page manuals
describing various specific things, like the text search engine.

wow! This makes Informix look EXTREMELY light! Our live server almost
always sits well below 200mb, with as many as 55 active simultaneous
connections.
One thing we have found quite helpful is getting an Informix
professional to do some optimising of our setup. It absolutely flies
now, and we thought it was fast before.
