When I read this I had to let out a great 'D'Oh!'. Linux fdisk did
actually warn me about this but I paid it no attention because one of my
workmates had assured me 'ignore it, it doesn't matter' and we both
thought this was an old BIOS limitation rather than a LILO limitation.

I have since repartitioned with /boot within the 1024 boundary and all is
well.

The moral of the story is to always pay attention to warnings even when
they have not given you any problems before.
