[ Humbug *General* list - semi-serious discussions about Humbug and
Unix-related topics. ]
Hi all. I've been aware of this feature of the telnet client for some
years but haven't had call to use it until recently (I'm now logged into a
lot of remote boxen over slow links in my new job).
A lot of the newer/less experienced members of humbug may not be aware of
this feature and may like to keep it in the back of their minds for the
day they are logged in over a slow slow link.
Login as normal to the remote box, then use the telnet escape character ^]
to get as telnet prompt. Then type mode line, there is a pause as it
negotiates with the remote and and then you are set - line at a time text.
No more are typoes over a slow link the bane of your (my ;) existance.
Put the command in ~/.telnetrc for line mode fun all the time.
I'm posting this now as I am so happy that it has worked this well.
I really should have tried it along time ago.
Oh, and before ppl mention ssh, don't :) I am aware of its many
advantages :) One day :)
Cheers,
-Robert
