BPC uses a modified Kerberos. I read a HOWTO that described a way to
authenticate using a '95 machine and then trick the modem into thinking the
Linux box was the '95 machine, but it's a bit ugly. I've also heard the
rumours of a hacked up Linux client.
Regardless, avoid BPC.
1) The cost.
2) Speed limiting firewall to outside Telstra -- 7kbit/sec max
3) Stupid firewall rules (can't reach hosts on the same exchange as you; ALL
udp traffic is blocked; etc)
4) The Win9x software is dodgy anyway; it won't install if you have two
network cards, etc
5) The cost.
Wait for Optus cable -- even if it isn't better, it'll provide competition.
And I seriously doubt it could be worse. Telstra are still trying to force
ISDN on everyone, and are dragging their heels for good cable and DSL.
