[ Humbug *General* list - semi-serious discussions about Humbug and
Unix-related topics. ]
Hi all,
I have been beating my head against a brick wall for about 3 days now. It's
slowly giving way, but now I could really use a hammer. Help????
I am trying to install Redhat 6.1 on a P60, 8 meg Ram, 540 HDD. I have a
network card that is now working. I have another machine that I have
installed 6.0 on (via a hard drive installation). I have made the
appropriate links to allow access to the RedHat directory through anonymous
ftp on the working machine.
The P60 does not have a CD drive, nr does it have enough space to copy the
installation, so I am attempting to do an FTP install. After many hassles,
I finally have this machine connecting to skinner via ftp, but that seems to
be where the process stops. It freezes on the screen that says "Retrieving
Second stage ramdisk". Eventually ftpd times out on skinner.
I have checked messages and it shows that a connection was made. Netstat
shows that there is a connection. If I can read the output correctly,
skinner send 56000 (bytes?) to the P60 but receives nothing back.... Once
it received 1 byte. That seems to be all that happens. After that, it is a
waiting game until ftpd times out. The P60 does nothing at all.
Can anyone give any useful info about what I might be doing wrong? Are
there any other programs I can use to determine what the problem might be?
Have I broken some rule that says "Do not install on P60's"? Most docs that
I have read indicate that min mem is 2-4 meg and that min hard drive can be
made as low as 80 meg.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Anthony
