AGP - quite likely just a marketing scam
I have an s3 virge (diamond stealth) in my current linux box working 
happily at 1024 x 768 (Or did I miss the point of your comment about them 
not working at all)

I might do a bit of shuffling with the sound cards I have a Pine (or at 
least that's what they tell me it is) cheapo card in there - haven't 
actually got the machine YET
