You can use a separate subnet if you like, but it will in fact (thanks
to ARP proxying) work if you give the dialin client an IP that is in
your ethernet range.
Just use the "proxyarp" option in the PPPD config at the server end.
Your PPP server will send fake ARP responses on behalf of the PPP
client, making it appear to be on the LAN.

p.s. Why do people use the A-class 10.x.x.x range when there's a
perfectly good set of C-class ranges (192.168.x.x) reserved for
private nets?
