2.2.9 doesn't need bdflush?

hmm, interesting, will have to investigate.

anyway, to disable it, find the offending line in /etc/inittab:
ud::once:/sbin/update

and terminate it with extreme prejudice
dd

and then Bob's your deceased uncle.
