Linux will support pretty much well everything except maybe a few exotic
cards but go with name brands as they are more likely to work *well*. 
Don't go with a NE2000 compatible network card though because they suck
really bad under linux :) for a compatability list, you can go to the
redhat site which has a pretty comprehensive list.  I don't know the
full URL but www.redhat.com should be a good starting place.  Anything
in the redhat list should be supported by *all* distributions.
