Yep it is most definately a BIOS problem.  Linux can see the entire disk
once it is up and running after all.  Upgrade the bios or ensure that the
boot image is in the first 1024 cylinders to ensure it always works.

You could consider using loadlin from dos to boot Linux.  Or alternatively
you could use lilo to boot linux and dos.
