another way you can check this is the following.
include &f1 in your init string so that the modem does not reset on
disconnecting and then when it does disconnect fire up minicom (or some such
thing) and strip out "ati6" from the modem. It gives a disconnect reason at
the bottom.
*this works with most chipsets but not all*
