Ok, working through it, thanks very much !!  I too had a look at the code.
It's odd, everything is there to handle smbfs, except that it never uses it
because it never checks for type=smbfs.... maybe it just doesn't work
properly that way yet so they hacked it out *shrug*.

What document was that information in?  I can't find it anywhere.

I lied, it was in the smbfs docs.  Here are the automount lines you need

so you may have to edit /etc/rc.d/init.d/autofs in order for smbfs to
mount properly.  as far as I can tell, autofs isn't currently written to
handle the smbfs but I could be really wrong here.
