The tcpdumps that you provided do include the "250 XXX Message queued"
message in response to the "." from MSES.  It may be possible that
there is somthing wrong with 2.2.5 that means that this isn't received
properly; however, sendmail isn't the problem.

You may wish to put sendmail into "DEBUG" mode (have a lot of disk
space spare) and convince your self of this.
