[H-GEN] USR Modem & Red Hat 5.2

Hi,
I have a red hat linux 5.2 box and a USR 56k Voice Fax Modem, I am trying
to get it working in red hat 5.2, but so far have had no luck, when i try
to dial a few lights on the modem flash but it never picks up the phone, do
I need a special dial sting? I am just using the default ones at the moment.
