[H-GEN] Kernel 2.2.1 troubles.

Being the adventurous (READ: stupid) linux newbie that I am, I've gone and
done something silly..

I decided to get with the times and download a completly new kernel, using
nothing but documentation to get it installed/working...

The install part was ooo so easy.

its just that uhh.. 'working' thing I'm having troubles with.

On bootup I get an error along these lines

ne2k-pci: Invalid Argument IRQ.

Well, Upon mucking around (like your basic adventurous man page reading
linux newbie) I find that the following four commands do something that
doesn't spit out ghastly errors.

insmod 8390
modprobe 8390
insmod ne2k-pci
modprobe ne2k-pci

whoa kewl, ok - no errors there.. great you say.

ifconfig spits out nothing but the localhost entry, and netconf (redhat
5.2) is utterly useless.

?

When I boot up with my old (2.0.36) kernel, she works great... and I DO
have the latest version of modutils (2.1.121 I think it is).

Any ideas guys?

Steve Thorne.
