I have a linux box that has a cd-r drive installed. It part of a network
that has a windows 98 machine in it.
What I'd like to do is create an image of the HD in the windows machine
onto a CD so that the frequent re-installs become faster and
less painful.

Can this be done via dd and Samba so that I end up with an image on
a cd that can be written out using tools either on a bootable cd or
single floppy disk ?

Will the resultant image HAVE to be written to a partition of the same
size and/or geometry ? Does dd need to read from a physically present
HD ?.

any help / pointers to FM's appreciated. The dd man page is not
particularly useful in this case.

John.
