IPs are _always_ assigned to network interfaces, _not_ hosts. This is an
important point!

If you've got a box with 5 ethernet cards, one on each of 5 networks,
it's going to have _5_ IPs. The box is seen as a host on each of the 5
networks. You can then configure your computer to act as a router between
the 5 networks.

In your situation, a machine with a PPP interface and an Ethernet card
will have 2 interaces, and _2_ IPs. The outside world sees your machine
via the PPP interace, and your windows boxes see your machine via the
ethernet interface. Bothe see _different_ IPs.

The problem with Windows is that it by-and-large hides all this, and makes
your job a bit more difficult. You need to know a thing or two about how
the system works before you can really start operating it properly. You
learn a little of the theory, and a lot of the practice falls into place.

Photography is a good example. You can get away with taking photos with a
crappy point-n-click job, but if you know a thing or two about what you're
doing and use the right tools, you become far more effective (take better
pictures).

Hope this helps.

- warmest regards,

Ben.
