Hi all..
I am new to Linux. Just finished installing Redhat 5.2
Got it all working O.K. but need to know a few answers.
I have the Linux box connecting to the net. I access the net
from both Linux ( Netscape } and a Win 98 machine. Both Netscape
and I.E.5. gggrrr
All works fine , ftp, www, etc etc. But for ICQ to work I need a
socks connection. I am running Squid and thought it was the same
as socks. Now the question is. Is Squid and socks the same thing.
( a proxy server } or do I have to run them both.
Any help appreciated on clearing a newbie question.
With regards to Linux, I am impressed. I have always had problems with
Win 98 dropping connections but running through Linux it isnt a pain at
all.
Rock solid connections everytime now. Linux machine isn`t hanging at
all. Been running for 5 days straight now. Flat out getting 3 days on
Win98 without
the 3 finger selute. control/alt/delete..
Regards.
A linux convert.
