Dave,

Those early Cyrix chips were capable of giving a few incompatibility
probs.

There is a kernel patch for using Cyrix chips with Linux and a lot of
information on a special Cyrix page with lots of FAQ type stuff run by a
guy called Brian something I think. That should be plenty for a smart
guy like you to go on (sorry its a bit scanty, I have the reference to
the page somewhere, but its obviously in a very safe place).
