Don't know if this is what you mean but there are a nummber of GUI
interface kits with built in widgets - buttons, menus etc. many of them
are cross platform too. Try the following reference for the GUI page.

Tools such as Vgui, Amulet, fltk (nice and light from the Titanic
graphics ppl), XForms, JX will all allow you to do what you want (ie put
on buttons, widgets, sliders, gauges etc). Or, you could get all the
O'Reilly X programming books and work thru them. I'd try fltk it looks
neat but light to me. I have played a bit with it. JX looks pretty fair
too. mgui can be downloaded from the AARnet mirror at UQ and its
interface is really easy to use but limited to certain widgets (a later
version is on its home page in Italy, I quite like its simplicity.
wxWindows was one of the early free cross platform tools.
