[H-GEN] 24/7 56k modems

Folks,

I've received a wonderful mixture of recommendations from a few ISP's
regarding modems recommended for 24 hr use. Some praise X2 but recognise
that it's critical mass is far less than k56flex. Others recommend
k56flex purely for the number of people using it.

The other however, recommend v.90, the ITU standard. What I'm not clear
on, is which of the following is true, if any:
-v.90 is backward compatible with x2
 -v.90 is backward compatible kflex
-v.90 is a least common denominator of x2 and flex
-v.90 is less robust than x2 but more robust than kflex (stable carrier)
-v.90 is like a 3rd standard, where it's neither kflex nor x2 compatible

If your ISP states they have 'kflex' support, does that in fact mean a
v.90 will work with it?
Likewise, there's a US Robotics modem that is v.90 and x2 compatible,
which if the assumption that v.90 is backward compatible with both kflex
and x2, then the USR modem is also kflex compatible?

Er...... how shall I put the above simply.... maybe I'll ask one question:

If your ISP recommends v.90, what brand/model would -you- buy for a
24hr/7day link?

Cheers,
David
