if you run Debian there's a nifty script called netenv that comes with the
pcmcia package. you could probably adapt it to RedHat or any other distrib
without too much pain.
it uses dialog (or something akin) to give you a menu of locations.
I haven't used netenv with DHCP, but I believe the pcmcia stuff handles it.
