[H-CHAT] hard drive

Basically, I have a few hdds lying around.  Two of them I am unable to
write to the boot sector of when I try to format them. (under dos).  They
seem to work fine as slave drives, but are seemingly uncapable of running
as drives to boot from.

ideas?
