[H-GEN] running programs from netatalk volumes

Dear List,

I have set up Netatalk

netatalk-1.4b2+asun2.1.0-5.rpm

on my Linux box (RH 5.1), and I can view it from a network-connected Mac,
but what I would really like to do is install programs on Macs from
installer files that reside on my Linux box, accessible via Netatalk. My
guess is that there's some configuring/tweaking to do in

/etc/atalkd/Applevolumes.system

At the moment I can see files, but most of them have been given a
Simpletext icon, and try to open with that application.

I've attached a copy of Applevolumes.system on my box; does anyone have
experience with settings in this file? Also, should there be any problems
with me being able to install software packages on Macs from my Linux box
using netatalk? If so, is there an alternative, such as an NFS mount?

Thanks for your help.

regards,
Laurence
