Some rules of thumb: never, ever, accidently hit a key while using it.
Also, never, ever, say "Select everything". It's a trap for the unwary,
in much the same way as saying "Yes" to a question like "Hi, can you
help with this little thing? I'm sure it's really simple, but..." is.

a) The install != using dselect. At the moment the install is actually
based around the concept of "Well, they'll probably have to touch dselect
sometime, but let's try to let them avoid that dreadful moment as long
as possible".

b) There's a project to replace it. It's half done -- the ordering
stuff is complete and accessible via a command line tool (namely
apt-get), and a dselect method (namely, apt). The GUI stuff is
basically nicely prototyped, but not yet hooked up to the bits
that work. If you haven't seen them, screenshots should still be at
http://www.debian.org/~jgg/deity/

Cheers,
aj
