[H-GEN] CDROM Troubles

have you tried mounting /dev/hdc rather than /dev/cdrom.....
mount /dev/hdc /mnt/cdrom
if this works the have a look a what device /dev/cdrom is linked to.
ls -l /dev/cdrom
this will tell you if the symbolic link between /dev/cdrom and /dev/hdc is
present. You may need to create this link.
ln -s /dev/hdc /dev/cdrom
