[H-GEN] CDROM Troubles

I have recently installed Red Hat Linux 5 and ever since then my cdrom
doesn't want to work. I've tried using the line "hdc=cdrom" but it doesn't
make any difference. As I am a new user I may be missing something simple.
Can anyone help me?
