Yeah, qmail is good. a bit of effort involved in changing over,
but from what I've heard, its worth it.

Ok, from experience, the best one I've used is exim.
its basically smail with a whole stack of neat features.
While there are probably still some bizare mail setups in
which sendmail would be a better choice due to its flexability,
exim has been written with security in mind,
and seems to perform well in the environments in which I've run it,
those being normal smtp hosts, and uucp servers and clients.
