As I alluded to previously, I have found that (admittedly in the dark
history of
modules) sometimes after a week of trying with no success, that I have
come to the
conclusion that it is the source/modules themselves that are the
problem, and nothing
you can do can fix it/make them work. You wait for the next version.

About the redhat/debian thing - surely what you are using in redhat is
exactly the
same as you would be under debian (not having had the pleasure of
debian) - ie.
modutils and kernel source. So that is surely a moot point.
