[H-CHAT] Nameserver problems

Hi all,

A friend's Linux box is having problems which I can't (or haven't yet
managed to) solve.  The problem is in resolving names.  He appears to have
a correct resolve.conf and host.conf files.  He can ping the nameserver,
he can use nslookup to resolve names, but othe programs (such as ftp
etc) fail with a `Bad hostname'.  The really odd thing is that it *was*
working and then "just stopped" when playing around with Netscape config.
Any ideas/suggestion ?
