		  UNIVERSITY OF NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE
		   DEPARTMENT OF COMPUTING SCIENCE

		   CENTRE FOR SOFTWARE RELIABILITY
		  Appointment of Research Associate

Applications are invited for a Research Associate position in the
Centre for Software Reliability. The successful candidate will work
in the British Aerospace Dependable Computing Systems Centre (DCSC).
The Centre for Software Reliability (CSR) is a research centre at the
University of Newcastle upon Tyne. Established in 1984, it forms part
of the Department of Computing Science.

The DCSC project was first established by British Aerospace at the
Universities of Newcastle and York in January 1991 to conduct research
into the development of complex avionics software and systems.

Research is to be conducted in the area of requirements and
specification, addressing particular themes including the use of
rigorous notations for representing and analysing functional and
timing requirements.

The work involves a combination of academic study and investigation,
case studies, and technology transfer activities so that advances can
be used effectively in industrial applications. Work will mainly be
carried out within the CSR at the University, but will involve visits
to the British Aeropace sites and to the DCSC at York. The post is
available now, and initial appointments will be until 31 December
1998, but may be renewed annually.

Information for Candidates

The ideal candidate for this project will have a good education
in software engineering, computing science or mathematics, research
experience (or potential), and strong inter-personal skills. Each
application will, however, be considered on its merits. The appointments
will be on the RA Grade 1A salary scale (UKP 15,159 - UKP 22,785 per annum,
with membership of the Universities Superannuation Scheme) according
to qualifications and experience.
